This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) and, where it applies to visitors from the EU/EEA, the GDPR.
What we collect
Through the forms on this site: email address, name, birth year and nationality — plus anything you choose to write in a message field.
That is deliberate data minimisation. In particular, we do not collect health or medical data through this website. Health information needed for camp is collected separately and securely after booking.
Why we use it
- Replying to your enquiry (WhatsApp, email or phone — whichever you used)
- Processing camp registrations
- Managing the waitlist when an edition is full
Legal bases
- Taking steps toward a contract — registration and booking enquiries
- Consent — when you contact us or join the waitlist
- Legitimate interest — operating and securing this website
Who processes it for us
- Hosting: Netlify (site hosting)
- Forms: Netlify Forms (form submissions)
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd.)
- WhatsApp: Meta / WATI — to be confirmed before launch
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use this site. It is not used for advertising: advertising storage and personalisation signals are switched off worldwide, and IP addresses are anonymised.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: nothing is stored until you agree. Choose OK on the banner and analytics cookies are set; choose No thanks and they never are.
- Elsewhere (for example the United States, Canada and Mexico, where prior consent is not required for basic analytics), analytics is on by default and the banner is an opt-out: choose No thanks and we switch it off immediately and remember that.
Your choice is stored in your browser and applies to later visits. The same measurement covers this site and culinarystudyabroad.com, so a visit that moves between the two is counted once rather than twice.
Minors
Camp applicants are typically 16–19. For applicants aged 16–17 we expect parental involvement in the enquiry and booking process. For visitors from the EU, national rules on minors' consent to data processing apply.
How long we keep it
Retention periods are being finalised and will be stated here before launch. Enquiry data that does not lead to a booking is deleted rather than kept indefinitely.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. Write to study@bhms.ch and we will respond.
No sale of data
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties beyond the processors listed above.
